In mid-1998, journalist Juan Data and filmmaker Ariel Winograd joined forces to independently produce what would become one of the earliest documentaries about Argentina’s emerging hip-hop scene. Made with borrowed university equipment and virtually no budget, *El Juego* documents a period when hip-hop culture in Argentina was still largely unknown to the general public. The resulting 45-minute film captures the artists, spaces and community surrounding the local underground scene at a formative moment in its development. Despite its modest production, *El Juego* has since gained value as a time capsule of the early years of Argentine hip-hop, when the movement was still practiced and understood by a relatively small group of people.
